A check-raise is an advanced play where the player checks their turn and, when the opponent bets, raises that bet. It can be made for value with very strong hands or as a bluff to pressure opponents. The check-raise is especially effective out of position to compensate for the positional disadvantage. This play signals significant strength and frequently forces opponents to fold medium-strength hands.
