An overpair occurs when a player’s two hole cards form a pair that outranks every card on the community board. For example holding KK on a J-7-2 flop constitutes an overpair. Overpairs are generally strong hands in Texas Hold’em but are vulnerable to sets and two pairs. Protecting overpairs by betting frequently is essential to prevent opponents from completing draws cheaply.
