Slow play is the strategy of playing passively (checking or calling) with a very strong hand, aiming to conceal the hand’s strength and induce the opponent to bet or build the pot. It is the opposite of direct aggressive play. Slow play is most effective when the opponent holds a hand strong enough to keep betting. Over-slow-playing can allow opponents to complete draws and overturn the hand.
