Three of a kind, or trips, is a hand formed by three cards of the same rank accompanied by two unmatched cards of different values. When the trio is formed by two hole cards and one community card, it is called a set (the stronger version). When formed by one hole card and two matching community cards, it is called trips. Three of a kind beats two pair and lower hands.
