Under the gun (UTG) is the most disadvantageous position preflop, as the player must act without having seen any other action. Being in the earliest position, UTG should play a much tighter range of strong hands. Acting first means any raise can be re-raised by multiple players still to act. At a nine-player table, UTG typically plays only the most premium hands.
