Fold equity is the value created by the possibility of winning the pot without a showdown when making an aggressive bet. It is especially important in tournament play with short stacks, where a shove can win the pot chips even without the best hand if the opponent decides to fold. The higher the opponent’s fold frequency, the greater the fold equity.
